THE SOCKEYE IS THE REDDEST OF ALL THE PACIFIC WILD SALMON. THEY ARE SILVER AND BLUE TINGED WHILE IN THE OCEAN BUT TURN RED WITH A GREEN HEAD ONCE THEY RETURN TO THE SPAWNING GROUNDS. THEY HAVE LARGE GILL RAKERS AND NO BLACK SPOTS ON THE BODY. IT HAS A HIGH OIL CONTENT AND THE FLESH IS RICH AND MOIST. THE SIZE AVERAGE IS 4 TO 10 POUNDS.
